Admission Information

Public/private admission

When you are being admitted, you can choose to be treated as a private or public patient.

As a public patient all costs of hospital and medical services will be the responsibility of the hospital (this does not include discharge medication or an MRI scan). You cannot choose to be treated by a particular doctor or occupy a bed in a single room.

You will be treated by the doctor on duty and placed in the most suitable and available ward.

As a private patient you have the right to be treated by a doctor of your choice provided the doctor practices at this hospital.

Your doctor will organise all medical and diagnostic services. The hospital offers special initiatives for those who choose to use their private health insurance. In particular we ensure that private patients do not incur out of pocket expenses.

Information for Medicare ineligible patients

As a Medicare Ineligible patient, it is your responsibility to ensure that you have health insurance cover or adequate money to cover the cost of your health care. Please read these flyers for full details:

Admission times and information

If you are being admitted between 7am and 8am you should present to the Admissions Office before the admission date to complete paperwork.

This should be done a minimum of three days before you are to come in to hospital, during the hours of 9am and 4.30pm.

If it is difficult for you to come in to the hospital, you should call the Admissions Office on 5320 4728 as soon as possible to conduct the preadmission process by phone.

If your booked admission time is later than 8am, you may attend on the day of admission at the booked time.

A patient drop off area, and short term free parking, can be accessed via the Mair Street car park entrance.

If you require a wheelchair or porter to assist you, your family can ask at the Admissions Office for assistance.
