Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Description of Service

Exercise and education programs involving physiotherapist, nurse, dietitian, occupational therapist, pharmacist and psychologist which run in 8 week cycles.

The programs are not suitable for people who are medically unstable or unable to participate in a group environment. It is also unsuitable for clients requiring services during an acute exacerbation or individualized treatment for their condition.

Cardiac Rehabilitation

The program is suitable for people with Ischaemic Heart Disease (post cardiac arrest, stable angina pectoris, post myocardial infarction) and post cardiac surgery (Coronary Artery Bypass Grafts (CAPGs), valve repair/replacement, stent).

Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Suitable for people with Chronic Pulmonary Disease (COPD) (emphysema and chronic bronchitis), bronchiectasis, pulmonary fibrosis and pre and post lung volume reduction surgery.

Current smokers are not excluded, however they must show a commitment to quit smoking.

Heart Failure Rehabilitation

The program is suitable for people with NYHA Class 11 - 111 Heart Failure.

Hours of Service

Programs are run on Wednesday and Friday and time and duration varies according to the level and type of program required

Outpatient / Referral Information

Patients who require Cardio-pulmonary Rehabilitation services require a referral from a Medical Practitioner or other Allied Health Professionals.
