Geriatric Medicine

Geriatric Medicine is a specialist physician service with expertise in the diagnosis, treatment and management of disease in the elderly.
Geriatric Medicine is a team base specialty where nursing and allied health staff has specific expertise in the care of the elderly.
It provides both inpatient and outpatient services with particular attention to the elderly with multiple and often complex chronic disease resulting in falls, loss of consciousness and changing cognition.
The service provides an integrated acute liaison both internally and to St. John of God Hospital Ballarat.
Through the activities of the Aged Care Assessment Service (ACAS) geriatric medical expertise is provided to the wider Grampians region including access to the inpatient Geriatric Medical Service.
