Oncology

The Oncology Service at Ballarat Health Services attempts to provide holistic care through a multidisciplinary team approach.

The department provides oncology and haematology services to the patients of Ballarat and the Grampians region.
This includes managing solid tumours such as breast cancer, bowel cancer, lung cancer and others, leukaemias, lymphomas and myelomas through the provision of chemotherapy and supportive care in a multidisciplinary environment.

The team includes medical staff (medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, palliative care physicians), nursing staff, social worker, dietitian, speech pathologist and pharmacist with access to physiotherapy, occupational therapy, psychologists and pastoral care.

Ballarat Health Services Medical Oncology Department has an excellent relationship with other community palliative care services.

The oncology department provides outpatient clinics Monday to Friday, a day oncology service and an in-patient ward.

Day Oncology and Outpatients clinics: Ballarat Regional Integrated Cancer Centre, corner Sturt and Drummond Street.
Inpatient Ward: Base Hospital, Medical Services Building, level four south.

Hours of service

Day Oncology: Monday to Friday 9:30am to 6pm.
Outpatient Clinics: Monday to Wednesday 10am to 1pm, Thursday 12pm to 5pm and Friday 9am to 1pm in the Ballarat Consulting Suites at the Base Hospital. Enter via Sturt St. (Refer to map)
Inpatients: 24 hours a day

Outpatient / referral Information

Referrals are made to the Oncology Clinic via the hospital referral form by either other specialist units or the LMO
Referrals can be discussed with the Oncology Registrar who can be paged via the Ballarat Health Services switchboard on (03) 5320 4000 pager 680.
