Post Graduate Programs

Ballarat Health Services offers career development opportunities for nurses within clinically focused post graduate programs. Post-Graduate Courses are offered in streams of Critical Care, Cardiac Care, Emergency, Paediatrics and Perioperative Nursing in conjunction with University affiliates.

Each course is conducted over a 12 month period whereby the students are assessed by both academic work and clinical performance. The students are employed on a limited tenure contract at a minimum of 0.84 EFT for 52 weeks within their specialty area to enable them to fulfil the clinical requirements as set out by each university. The academic year generally runs from January/February to November and comprises two semesters. Students complete online subjects, face to face contact lectures (one day per week) or teleconferencing (one day per week).

Specialist educators are located in each area and facilitate the students' clinical learning by implementing clinical assessments, completing student performance appraisals and supporting the clinical and professional growth of the student within each area.

Prospective students are required to apply both to Ballarat Health Services and directly to the relevant university once the course is open for applicants. Internal and external scholarships may be available.
