Car parking

Base Hospital (Drummond Street North, Ballarat)

A multi-storey car park is available at the Base Hospital and can be accessed via Mair Street, near the corner of Anticline Lane (click the image on the right to view a location map).

  • Public parking is available on Ground and Level 1. Parking fees apply.
  • Pay at the pay station (located in lift lobby) with cash or credit card, or at the exit gate with credit card only.
  • A drop off and pick up zone is available within the car park (there is no fee for drivers using the drop-off zone and staying less than 20 minutes).
  • Disabled parking is located on ground level.
  • 2.1 metre clearance.
  • Please refer to Terms and Conditions located at the entrance to the car park on Mair Street.

There is also limited free, metered and ticketed parking in surrounding streets.

Public & Visitor - Free and Discounted Parking

BHS is committed to providing car parking to staff, patients and visitors in a fair and reasonable manner. There is currently in place a maximum daily charge of $16 for a single entry, and multiple days parking will capped at $40 for a single entry.

Dialysis patients have six designated parking spaces that are available free of charge. Please note a dialysis parking permit must be displayed on their dashboard.

Department Heads, Nurse Units Managers, Social Workers and other relevant BHS staff who are aware of circumstances where a Patient or Carer would be disadvantaged by the standard parking fees can elect to allow a $3 discounted parking ticket to be used at their discretion for those clients as a concession to their parking fees. These discount vouchers are available at a number of areas across the Base Hospital site. E.g. the existing $8 ticket less the $3 discount ticket will charge $5.

Queen Elizabeth Centre (102 Ascot Street South, Ballarat)

The Queen Elizabeth Centre site has limited free on-site car parking. There is free two hour parking along the streets surrounding the complex. (Refer to map)

Dental Clinic (Corner Hertford Street and Tuppen Drive, Sebastopol)

Free parking (including disabled spaces) is available onsite. Enter from Hertford Street.

Disabled parking

  • Base Hospital: Disabled parking is located on the ground level of the Mair Street car park. There are also a number of disabled parking spaces located in Drummond and Sturt Streets, near the hospital entrances, and in surrounding streets.
  • Queen Elizabeth Centre: There are a number of disabled parking spaces located on Ascot Street South, near the entrance to the Queen Elizabeth Centre. There are also a number of spaces located at the main entrance (these can be accessed via the main driveway).
  • Dental Clinic: The dental clinic offers onsite disabled parking.

Patient drop off zones

  • Base Hospital: Patient drop off zones can be accessed through the Mair Street car park and outside the Drummond and Sturt Street entrances.
  • Queen Elizabeth Centre: A patient drop off zone is available at the Ascot Street South entrance.
  • Dental Clinic: Patients can be dropped at the main entrance, which is accessed from Hertford Street.

Wheelchairs

Wheelchairs are available at the Base Hospital Drummond Street and Sturt Street entrances and the Queen Elizabeth Centre Ascot Street South entrance.

Public Transport

  • Base Hospital: Bus stops are located immediately next to the ward block of the Base Hospital on Drummond Street and on the corner of Sturt and Drummond Streets (outside McDonalds and Shell).
    • The V-Line coach service to and from Warrnambool stops at the Sturt Street bus stops (outside McDonalds and Shell).
  • Queen Elizabeth Centre: Bus stops are located on Eyre Street near the corner of Ascot Street (immediately outside the Queen Elizabeth Centre).
  • Dental Clinic: The clinic is located on bus route 25 (Ballarat-Delacombe).

Taxis

A taxi rank is located near the Sturt Street entrance of the Base Hsopital. A taxi phone is also located at the Drummond Street and Sturt Street Information Desks if required.

Bicycle parking

Bicycle parking at the Base Hospital is located within the Mair Street car park on ground level. There is also bicycle parking outside the hospital grounds near the Mair Street car park entrance. At the Queen Elizabeth Centre a bicycle rack is located outside the Ascot Street South entrance (via the driveway).

Transport Assistance

The following agencies offer community transport services:

  • Ballarat Community Health runs the Ballarat Health Companion Project, which is a transport assistance program for people travelling to Ballarat for a health appointment.
  • Uniting Care runs a Community Transport Program for fail aged people and people with a disability. This service does not aim to act as or to replace a taxi or bus service, but to provide a service to people who are unable to afford, or access, other means of public transport, or need extra assistance.
