Rotations

BPT1s rotate through a selection of the following rotations; Oncology, Cardiology, General Medicine, Neurology, Gastroenterology, Emergency Medicine, Medical Admissions, Hospital in the Home (HITH), Haematology, Perioperative, Intensive Care, Medical Night, Rehabilitation and Palliative care.

BPT2s and BPT3s get exposure to medical registrar jobs including ward-based General Medical Registrar roles, Admitting Registrar, Oncology, Cardiology, Neurology, Hospital in the Home, Aged care, Palliative care, and Rehabilitation medicine.

Grampians Health Ballarat is a Level 2 teaching hospital and is part of the Greater Western Basic Physician Training Consortium. Grampians Health Ballarat is also part of the Western Victoria Regional Training Hub.

Additional Training

BPT teaching program includes fortnightly Grand Round, case report/journal club, weekly unit specific education meeting, twice weekly formal education sessions and monthly morbidity/mortality meeting.

BPTs preparing for RACP written and clinical examinations are assisted by our physician training team with comprehensive supportive program including written exam lectures, consultant led long and short case tutorials, bedside teaching and practice examinations.

BPTs will have educational supervisors and professional development advisors as part of their enrolment in RACP’s PREP program. Our BPTs are supported by advanced trainees with mentoring sessions in preparation for exams and interviews.

Advanced Training in General Medicine

The Internal Medicine Services at Grampians Health Ballarat provides advanced physician training positions in General Medicine and Acute Care Medicine.

Our advanced physician training program offers high quality six-month specialty rotations. Along with University Hospital Geelong (UHG), Barwon Health and South West Health Care (SWHC) in Warrnambool we are part of the Western Victoria Regional Training Hub. Recruitment for AT positions are combined with these sites. Through this collaboration we are able to offer rotations at all three sites and can enable trainees to complete all of their advanced physician training in Western Victoria.

  • Intensive Care Medicine
  • Perioperative Medicine

  • Oncology (college appointed)
  • Renal (rotation is via rotation from Royal Melbourne Hospital)
