Grampians Health Ballarat runs a comprehensive prevocational training program for new medical graduates at the PGY1, PGY2, PGY3+ and lead-in training for many of the vocational training programs in most specialties, inclusive of the Grampians Rural Generalist pathway.

Prevocational Doctor – Post Graduate Year 1 (PVD – PGY1)
There are 35 PVD – PGY1 positions at Grampians Health Ballarat. Each PVD – PGY1 will complete five rotations. All rotations are based in Ballarat at either the acute or sub-acute site.

Prevocational Doctor - Post Graduate Year 2
There are numerous rotations and learning opportunities for PGY2 doctors across many areas of medicine. Under the National Framework for Prevocational training, PGY2 doctors who have not entered vocational training (i.e. BPT) will be required to complete the clinical experiences outlined by the AMC.

Under the new framework, streamed years have been removed. However, focused year to support trainees’ application to vocational training is supported and can be discussed with our Medical Workforce team - medwork@gh.org.au

All PGY2+ posts are advertised on the Grampians Health recruitment website in late May each year. The PVD-PGY1, PGY2, BPT1,2 and BPT3 positions are allocated by a state matching process run by the Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria.
