A fond farewell to a treasured volunteer
After nearly 16 years of unwavering service, Maureen Woodford is retiring from her volunteer role at Grampians Health. Maureen began her journey in January 2009, starting in the Emergency Department (ED). Over the years, she has generously contributed her time and energy across various departments, including the ED, Volunteer Liaison Group, Cheerleading Program during COVID, Volunteer Simulated Patient (VSP), BRICC Wellness Centre, and Volunteer Team Leader of the Welcome Team.
Maureen's commitment extends beyond direct patient interaction, serving as a consumer representative on the Infection Control Committee. Her dedication and impact were recognised with the honour of being named a Life Governor in 2021. Additionally, she holds the unique distinction of being the namesake of the first onsite crane for the Base Redevelopment, symbolising her foundational role in the community. Maureen is always lending a helping hand in any way she can, going above and beyond, continuously offering her time to assist with additional duties in all aspects of the hospital operations including with Volunteer Services.
As Maureen steps away from her volunteer duties to spend more time with her family, she does so filled with gratitude and joy. Reflecting on her time at Grampians Health, she shared, "I’m grateful for the opportunity to be able to help people during my time volunteering, some in their worst moments. I’m stepping away with a happy heart in the knowledge that I have been able to contribute to people’s experience with the health service. I am hopeful that the many friendships I have made during my time will continue into the future."
Maureen's last day will be on Monday 23 December, marking the end of an era. Her legacy of compassion, dedication, and community spirit will continue to inspire both current and future volunteers.
Thank you, Maureen, for your remarkable service and the lasting impact you've made on countless lives.
