Grampians Health’s Support Services team plays an integral role in keeping our health services and others running, laundering 4,673,439 items of linen each year which equates to 4,207 tonnes or about 1000 adult elephants.

On this International Laundry Day (Monday April 15), we extend our heartfelt appreciation to our dedicated teams across our Ballarat, Horsham and Edenhope campuses.

Their incredible efforts ensure that our bedding, gowns, kitchen and bathroom linen remain impeccably clean all-year-round, contributing significantly to the comfort and hygiene of our patients and aged care residents.

Chief Redevelopment and Infrastructure Officer Veroncia Furnier-Tosco emphasised the significance of International Laundry Day in recognising the laborious yet essential task of laundry management.

"Our team excels in maintaining a steady supply of fresh linen, a critical aspect of our healthcare service and other organisations in the region," Ms Furner-Tosco said.

“More than 4.5 million pieces of linen are washed each year which equals to 12,500 items a day. That’s a lot of linen to keep up with! Thank you to each and every team member for their collaborative efforts, ensuring unparalleled care for our patients."

Director Support Services Gerard Malcolm, who oversees the linen team, said he was proud of his team for delivering such a high-quality service and that their efforts did not go unnoticed.

“Not only does our linen team service Grampians Health, it also services other healthcare services and community organisations across the region,” Mr Malcolm said.

“Thank you to all in our team, your contributions are deeply valued across all sectors of Grampians Health.”
