Ballarat’s much-loved hospital Santa, Dave Keene, will be hitting the road again with a brand new ‘sleigh’ this holiday season, thanks to a generous partnership with Ballarat Mazda.

To kick off the season in style, Santa Dave and his spirited new sleigh – a red Mazda BT50 Dual Cab ute – made their first appearance, fully loaded with donated toys and joined by the Grinch, at Ballarat Mazda on Thursday, 28 November.

Ballarat Mazda’s support of Santa Dave’s mission means he can continue his annual tradition of bringing joy to Grampians Health Ballarat’s patients, both young and old, with hand-delivered gifts. This year, more than 40 local businesses have joined in the spirit, donating toys that Santa Dave will deliver during his Christmas visits to the hospital.

This event marks Santa Dave’s 14th year of bringing Christmas spirit to patients, many of whom will be spending their holiday season in the hospital.

“Christmas is about lifting spirits, and every smile reminds me why I do this," said Dave Keene, also known as “Santa Dave”.

"I’m grateful for the support from Ballarat Mazda, who help make this possible with this ‘sleigh’ upgrade. Their generosity, along with the community’s, makes the holidays special for people who can’t be at home."

Ballarat Mazda’s donation of the vehicle is accompanied by a generous offer to Grampians Health Ballarat staff: a $500 donation for every new Mazda purchased by hospital staff, supporting the Grampians Health at Home Paediatric Program, which provides in-home care for children.

Nathan Tinker, Sales Manager at Ballarat Mazda, expressed his excitement about supporting Santa Dave’s efforts and Grampians Health Ballarat.

“We’re thrilled to be part of Santa Dave’s mission to spread cheer. This partnership allows us to make a lasting impact on local children’s health. And the Grinch joining the fun—well, that just makes it all the more memorable!” said Mr. Tinker.

Sarah Masters, Head of Fundraising and Engagement at Grampians Health Ballarat, welcomed the support with gratitude.

“This collaboration captures the heart of Ballarat’s community spirit, especially during the Christmas season. We’re so thankful to have Santa Dave, the overwhelming generosity of local businesses including Ballarat Mazda and now even a Grinch as part of our community,” said Ms. Masters.
