The gynaecology team provide a range of inpatient services and procedures for women, relating to period pain management, endometriosis, pelvic pain, pelvic floor concerns, prolapse and other gynaecological conditions.
Grampians Health Ballarat has a dedicated Paediatric and Adolescent Ward (Ward 2 South), where only children are admitted. We also have a Paediatric Day Medical Unit, which is suitable when children are expected to be well enough to be discharged within 24 hours. This moves children out of the busy Emergency Department to a more child-friendly space. A Special Care Nursery is available for newborns, who may be full-term or premature (as young as 32 weeks’ gestation).
Our Special Care Nursery, at Grampians Health Ballarat, provides care for babies who are too unwell, premature and/or small to be managed in the postnatal ward.
Whether or not you use pain relief in labour is a personal choice and we will support you in your decision. We encourage the use of ‘non-drug’ options, including the use of water (shower/bath), positioning, massage and breathing awareness. It is a good idea to be aware of the options for pain relief and to know how you would receive pain relief drugs, if you feel you need them.

Childbirth education classes are offered to all women, and their support person, planning to deliver their baby at Grampians Health Ballarat. Classes are booked at your first Maternity Outpatients Clinic appointment. We offer face-to-face childbirth education classes on a set of three Tuesday evenings and one full Saturday each month. Below is a list of short videos on topics that we would normally cover in our maternity classes. You can view these at any time.
Over 1400 babies are born at Grampians Health Ballarat Maternity Unit each year. The Maternity Outpatients Unit provides women with pregnancy care (antenatal care), childbirth education classes and postnatal home visits, after your baby is born.
Our Breastfeeding Service provides specialised support and information to parents on all aspects of breastfeeding and infant feeding.
The Eating Disorder Multidisciplinary Clinic includes a coordinated, collaborative approach to treating people of all ages who need support with an eating disorder.

The Gastroenterology team manages conditions that are primarily related to the gastrointestinal tract and liver.
