An Electroencephalogram (EEG) is performed where a cap is fitted to your head and gel squirted through holes in the cap to touch your skin – the electrical activity of your brain is recorded. The test may involve some breathing exercises and flashing lights, you are encouraged to fall asleep if possible.
This test is non-invasive, painless and safe. We cannot read or influence your thoughts in any way with this test. There is no shaving or cutting of hair involved.

To access this service you must have a referral from a medical provider - Appointment necessary.

The patient name, date of birth, phone number and address must be included on the referral. If using fax or email, you will be contacted via mail or phone call as appropriate, with the appointment details.
Please note: Patients must be at least 2 years of age. Younger patients must attend a specialised service in Melbourne – e.g. Royal Childrens’ Hospital ph. 9345 5034 or Monash Childrens’ Hospital ph. 8572 3007
Paediatric patients: It is advisable for the child to be sleep-deprived to encourage sleep during the test.
If on medication, please take as normal. Please bring a list of medications.
If a prolonged EEG is requested, allow 3 hours.
Clean hair is necessary to have the test done. You will need to wash your hair after the test, as the gel used is similar to hair gel and will dry firm afterwards.
